Duties

This position is located within the Office of Administrative Law Judges (OALJ). The OALJ is charged with resolving cases set for hearing concerning natural gas, oil, and electric matters, and doing so in a manner that is consistent with the public interest, protects customers, and promotes competitive markets.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Generally, male applicants must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • You may be required to divest certain energy-related securities.
  • A background investigation is required.
  • You must provide your SF-50 (see Required Documents section).
  • Relocation expenses will not be paid.

Qualifications

1. Candidates must have held a Federal ALJ position, at the AL-3 level or above for at least one year. 2. Must possess significant work experience in the areas of energy law, administrative law, litigation, management, and leadership. Must also demonstrate executive level experience or skills related to directing and supervising a legal or judicial office. 3. Must possess executive level experience effectively communicating complex technical and legal issues both orally and in writing, as well as the ability to fully comprehend such complex technical and legal issues. 4. Licensure Requirement:  Former ALJs at the time of application, must possess a professional license to practice law and be authorized to practice law under the laws of a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or any territorial court established under the United States Constitution.  Please read the required documents section closely for information on what you need to submit as proof that you are licensed and authorized to practice law.
