This position is located at the Fort Leavenworth Fox Hunt. This announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies throughout the program. Duties

Responsible watering, correctly identifying quantities of various foods for each animal following specified or special schedule and making recommendations to changes in feeding or other care to owners. Observing animals' appearance, behavior, health changes and take corrective action by informing management, veterinarian, and owners. Administering medication. Provides adequate security at all times for animals and premises. Cleans, sanitizes stalls, kennels, and common areas on a regular basis to assure sanitary conditions are maintained. Maintains an adequate supply of food, bedding and supplies. Performs various maintenance and repairs when necessary. Exercising animals by turning out or walking on leash or following a specific schedule.

Requirements

  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Must be available to work day, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts, depending on the organization's needs.
  • Appointment is subject to favorable suitability determination.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical and background check is required.
  • Requires frequent lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally 70 pounds. Required to stand, walk, bend, and climbing and working in awkward positions for lengthy periods of time.
  • Must be willing to accept a flexible appointment.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2. to include a medical examination.
  • Incumbent may also be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally controlled facilities.
  • Work is performed inside and outside. Maybe exposed to poorly lighted insulated areas, extreme weather conditions, odors, noises, dirt, dust and height. Subject to cuts, bruises, kicks, electric shock, bites, scratches and ticks from animals.
  • This position has been identified as a resting designated position (TDP) and employees are subject to a random drug test.

Qualifications

1. Knowledge of animals' characteristics, needs, and behaviors. 2. Skill in observing handling and caring for animals. 3. Ability to follow complex instructions and maintain records.
