This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Fort Walker is a training and maneuver center focused on providing arms training. All branches of the Armed Forces train on the installation.

Duties

As a Desk Sergeant, serves as initial point of contact for all in person or telephone communications with the public, concerning law enforcement matters which occur on an assigned shift. Prepares staff and administrative actions for simple to complex sensitive and controversial violations (actual or potential) of Federal and State law and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Works in a dual dispatch capacity, receiving calls for police, fire and EMS emergency and nonemergency calls for service. Coordinate desk operations with prior and succeeding shifts and ensure that incomplete actions are fully understood. I Reviews police reports, patrol reports and ongoing investigations to ensure complete, concise and factual information reporting. As a law enforcement officer, provides law enforcement services within the jurisdictional boundaries of the installation.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Incumbent is required to graduate from U.S. Army Military Police School (USAMPS) Civilian Police Academy and have completed the Field Training Officer (FTO) Program, prior to assignment of duties, in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • Must comply with Army Civilian Police dress and appearance requirements of AR 670-10, Section II "Uniform Standards and Specifications" and AR 190-56, Chapter 6 "Uniforms and Equipment."
  • Must successfully complete Telecommunicator I/II trainings, Dispatcher training, and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training, in accordance with AR 525-27.
  • Must obtain and maintain certifications for CPR/first aid techniques, in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • Must complete a physical ability test (PAT) to demonstrate the physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • Must complete a pre-employment medical examination/periodic medical evaluations to ensure the continued required level of health needed to perform the essential functions of the job in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • Required to maintain a high standard of conduct at all times; and subject to continuous evaluation to determine character, trustworthiness, and fitness are consistent with the high standards expected of law enforcement and security professionals.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment Drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires working outside of normal duty hours during actual or simulated incidents as an emergency response force member.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-7).
