About the Position:Serve as the senior working leader of 3 or more employees in accomplishing trades and labor work. This position is obligated. You will be asked to sign an agreement acknowledging that you are aware of the obligation and willing to be displaced under reduction in force procedures upon the return of the former incumbent.

Duties

Pass on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, and starts work (e.g. by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led). Check work progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor’s instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines. Perform troubleshooting, modification, diagnosis of defects and correct of malfunction of hydraulic and other fluid systems and their elated components. Test components and systems mechanically and hydraulically for performance factors such as sensitivity, acceleration response, fluid flow, pressure range, and internal and external leakage. Repairs, modifies, and adjusts turret drive and weapons systems for combat vehicles.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The incumbent of this position must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State and government driving license.
  • Must pass a pre-employment and an annual physical examination.
  • Position may require heavy lifting up to 60 pounds.

Qualifications

Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 1year by a current, permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees)applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Leader experience may include: assigning immediate tasks to be performed ensuring there is adequate work to keep workers busy; updating supervisor on the status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations; ensuring that safety and housekeeping rules are followed, and checking work progress until completion, making sure the job is done in compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Lead or SuperviseAbility To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Trouble ShootingUse of Measuring Instruments Physical Efforts: Work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing 50-60 pounds;occasionally handles heavier items. Uses lifting devices such as overhead cranes, hoists and forklifts to lift and position heavy items such as engines. Working Conditions: Works in a large maintenance shop building, which is generally well ventilated and heated. Exposed to exhaust fumes, chemicals, excessive noise, dirt, oil, grease, etc. Subject to cuts, bruises, back strains, shocks, burns and skin irritation. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment as required. May work also outside in inclement weather.
