This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

VA Careers - Social Work: https://youtube.com/embed/enRhz_ua_UU The incumbent works for the Central Virginia VA Health Care System in Virginia as a direct report to the Mental Health/PTSD Supervisory Social Worker, and is assigned to the Mental Health Service Line. The position is responsible for 60% direct patient care as a Same Day Mental Health Access Clinician and 40% as Mental Health Same Day Access Coordinator for the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's) and main facility in Richmond. There may be limited travel to CBOC locations and the main facility in Richmond. Duties include but are not limited to: A. Social Worker Mental Health Same Day Access Coordinator Duties (40%): Coordinating interdisciplinary staff engagements for the purpose of maximizing care and collateral services and reducing risk. Reduce barriers to care by facilitating speedy access to services. Collaborating with all referral sources and working closely with mental health leadership and front line staff, including medical support assistants to ensure excellent coordination, collaborative relationships and communication. Coordinating referrals within the MH same day access team to help coordinate care and work flow and serve as a liaison to support Veterans access to care. Being available as needed to provide expert mental health consultation on crisis, urgent care and same day access services. Organizing and advocating for needed resources to ensure immediate access to exceptional, integrated mental health care. Ensuring compliance with the Mental Health Uniform Services Package, National Same-Day Services SOP and local polices. Monitor outcomes and implement performance improvement using a data obtained via SAIL and other clinical tools. Evaluation, Education, Supervision, Coaching, and Mentoring. Serves as Social Work Coordinator providing immediate onsite guidance and support to junior social workers. Provides clinical supervision, orientation, and training. Directs activities to maximize effectiveness, efficiency, and continuity of care for Veterans. B. The Mental Health Same Day Access Coordinator is a clinical position with duties and responsibilities in the following areas (60%): Independently provides in person, telephone or telehealth clinical services for complex patients to include triage, biopsychosocial assessments, brief psychotherapy, and patient education. Provide same day access for Veteran care. Responsible for triaging Veterans requesting mental health services and determining the urgency of the request, arranging an appointment for evaluation or submitting consult. Assesses needs for mental health treatment and makes appropriate referrals for level of care. Complete Columbia screens, Suicide Risk Assessments, and Safety Plans. Assesses urgent or high-risk clinical situations, uses evidenced-based, VA-approved assessment tools to evaluate acute and chronic risk factors for SOY behavior and makes appropriate clinical interventions. Welfare checks, coordination of ECO and inpatient psychiatric admission may be required at times. Close coordination and consultation with ED psychiatrist, Access prescriber and/or inpatient medical director required for acute admissions. Provide post-discharge follow up and safety planning, ensuring future outpatient appointments are scheduled as needed. Responsible for maintaining required clinical records, evaluating and monitoring service delivery and outcomes. Provides data summaries and information for reports requested. Best practices, practice guidelines and evidence-based treatment protocols are utilized to the extent feasible in all therapeutic interventions. Maintains a current and productive network of referral resources. Makes provision for referral services from other agencies, community resources and other Governmental agencies to resolve problems Participates in clinical care reviews, data collection, quality initiatives and special projects as requested. Complies with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders. Timely completion of all clinical charting and documentation required by the Medical Center or healthcare system, as appropriate. Assist patients in the preparation of materials needed for applications to various agencies for entitlements. Serve as the clinic consultant for information on negotiating the complex process patients encounter when interacting with government and community agencies. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/06/2024. Basic Requirements: Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g this part). English Language Proficiency. Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Policy. Education. A master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. To verify that a social work degree meets the accreditation standard for a master of social work, access the CSWE website at http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation/organizations.aspx. Experience - Must have at least two years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and should be in a specialized area of social work practice of which, one year must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Senior social workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. Senior social workers are experts in their specialized area of practice. Senior social workers may have certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Knowledge of community resources, how to make appropriate referrals to community and other governmental agencies for services, and ability to coordinate services. (b) Skill in independently conducting psychosocial assessments and treatment interventions to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational and other diversified backgrounds. (c) Knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities and treatment procedures (i.e. acute, chronic and traumatic illnesses/injuries, common medications and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology) to formulate a treatment plan. (d) Skill in independently implementing different treatment modalities in working with individuals, families, and groups who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical, and social problems to achieve treatment goals. (e) Ability to provide consultation services to new social workers, social work graduate students, and other staff about the psychosocial needs of patients and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and compliance with treatment. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Social work Coordinators must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level (LCSW or equivalent).
