This position is located on a Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center. The incumbent is responsible for providing vocational instruction in order to develop and instruct students in Driver Education. Duties

Duties and responsibilities list at full performance level. Responsible for preparing course materials in the fundamentals and basic skills required for the Driver Education program. Introduction and instruction of concepts and skills required for defensive driving and safe operation of a motor vehicle; licensing requirements; and routine maintenance and care of a motor vehicle. Reviews course materials ensuring the most up-to-date information is utilized in the development of course materials such as study guides, simple simulations, written tests, proficiency charts, training aids, and course outlines. Establishes individual training plans for each student assigned to the Driver Education training program based on the students entry level skills. Uses creativity and innovation in instruction, such as planning, scheduling, and organizing field trips, guest speakers, and incentive programs, etc. Responsible for maintaining accountability for all students assigned. Administers prescribed tests. Maintains a variety of records and reports covering student activities in the vocational phase of the training program.

  • This is a Test Designated Position. You will be tested for illegal drugs prior to appointment and randomly thereafter. Appointment and continued employment is conditional on negative results.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Depending upon location must obtain (within 90 days of hire) and/or possess and maintain all State and/or DOT required Defensive Driver Training certifications and Medical certifications.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. GS-07: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level; OR one full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement related to the position; OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work with major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as three or more of the following: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); Supervising or administering a training program; Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results; Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. GS-09: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level; OR a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., related to position in Training or Education; OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level) if related to position in Training or Education. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work with major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as three or more of the following: Developing, organizing and instructing a driver's education training program ensuring the most up to date information is utilized for the development of course materials. Analyzing and evaluating training courses against established goals, identifying problems and deficiencies and recommending modifications for improvement, establishing individual training plans, and developing and adapting methods and techniques of instruction. Administering prescribed tests and monitoring vocational progress. Making presentations to others on a variety of topics related to training and development. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
