This position is located on the Dixie National Forest in the Escalante Ranger District in Escalante, Utah. This position is responsible for implementing both annual and long-term work plans for recreation sites (campgrounds, day use sites, trailheads, recreation residences, etc.). Duties

Performs supervisory duties 20% or less of the time. Participate in developing long-range plans for managing recreation resources and recreation sites. Identify potential problems arising from changing recreation use patterns and recommend strategies to deal with them. Process special use permits for land use, recreation and non-recreation use on Unit, ensuring permit protects the public interest. Participate in development plans for recreation site maintenance. Prepare detailed project work plans and schedules, including required personnel, equipment, and supplies. Conduct surveys of existing dispersed and developed recreation facilities and their present use and demand. Inspect recreation areas for compliance with management plans, public health regulations, and safety plans. Plan the work to be accomplished by assigning work to employees and establishing production or quality standards for the Unit’s work. Promote and support a positive work environment to create a climate of mutual respect and integrity.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. For more information on the qualifications for this position, visit the Office of Personnel Management's General Schedule Qualification Standards. Your application and resume must clearly show that you possess the experience requirements. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement: GS-9: One year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as three or more of the following: Developed plans for recreation area maintenance, rehabilitate, reconstruction or construction projects in accordance with program management objectives; and/or prepared special use permits in final form for supervisor's review; and/or inspected recreation areas for compliance with management plans, public health regulations, and safety; and/or assisted with the enforcement of Off-Road-Vehicle (ORV) restrictions, including maintenance and posting of regulatory signs and enforcement of restrictions; OR 2 full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or master's degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position such as forestry, range management, agriculture; recreation, recreation management, forest resource management, natural resource management, or park management; OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position (in excess of 18 semester/27 quarter hours) and specialized experience as described above. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
