Duties

The ideal candidate for the (Sterile Compounding) Intravenous Admixture Unit (IVAU) Supervisor position will be an exceptionally talented, and motivated pharmacist with sterile compounding experience and an in-depth knowledge of IV room operations including USP and . The candidate must have strong communication and people skills and be capable of managing pharmacists and technicians in a complex, fast paced environment. Project management and process improvement skills are highly desirable. Duties for the Supervisory Pharmacist (Sterile Compounding) IVAU will include but are not limited to the following: Overseeing unit activities to ensure the safe and timely preparation of sterile products. Optimizing workflows to improve safety and efficiency. Developing and revising standard operating procedures. Training staff and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. Evaluating staff performance and supporting professional development. Serving on medication related committees and work groups. Verifying medication orders and compounding commercial and investigational medications. Supervisory duties that apply to this position, which include but are not limited to the following: Under the direction of the service chief, participating in establishing organizational priorities, analyzing issues and making decisions based on supportable data and judgment. Under the direction of the service chief, participate in developing policies and procedures and establishing standards for the section and ensuring they are followed. Ensuring all standards for patient and staff safety are implemented and followed. Evaluating staff and organizational effectiveness in accomplishing assigned work objectives and tasks and trouble-shooting problems that arise in accomplishing goals and objectives. Leading process improvement initiatives to further develop and implement more efficient and streamlined methods and procedures to accomplish the goals and objectives of the section. Requirements

Qualifications

To qualify for a Supervisory Pharmacist (Sterile Compounding) IVAU, GS-0660-13, you must: BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: A. A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (external link) (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. OR B. A bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and a substantial record of experience and achievement that demonstrates competence in the pharmacy field. Individuals who qualify based on this option will be subject to a comprehensive evaluation of both their education and experience prior to final appointment. AND License: An active current license as a pharmacist in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: In addition, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: preparing the complete range of sterile products (parenteral, enteral, and parenteral nutrition, and intravenous additives for a large medical facility); identifying and preventing drug reactions or interactions; ensuring correct labeling, handling and storage of pharmaceutical products; advising physicians of possible safety issues; compounding drugs as prescribed, including IV and chemotherapy drugs; teaching pharmacy techniques/procedures to other pharmacists. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
