OIG is organized into seven operational units: the Immediate Office of the Inspector General, Office of the Counselor, Office of Audits and Evaluations, Office of Healthcare Inspections, Office of Investigations, Office of Management and Administration, and Office of Special Reviews. In addition to the Washington, DC, headquarters, OIG has offices located in more than 60 locations throughout the country.

Duties

As an AUDITOR (PERFORMANCE) (SENIOR AUDITOR / AUDITOR IN CHARGE), you will: Prepare and conduct performance audit surveys and program evaluations, which focus on specific performance audit objectives. Develop new lines of inquiry and potential audit areas; ensures that work papers are prepared in accordance with OIG audit procedures and Government Accountability Office (GAO) Yellow Book Standards. Draft surveys and audit debriefs describing results of work and prepare draft audit reports. Provide on-the-job training while coaching and mentoring junior staff. Research and prepare proposals for suture department-wide performance audits.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: To qualify for this position as a GS-13 you must meet the specialized experience requirements for this position with at least one (1) full year of experience at the GS-12 level, or equivalent. This experience as provided below, should have equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience includes: - Interviewing employees, managers, and other officials involved with a program, activity or function being reviewed; AND - Reviewing work or reports of junior staff to ensure it includes evidence to support findings; AND - Preparing and presenting reports, briefings, and testimony that cover management issues. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-13, you must have been at the GS-12level for 52 weeks. Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a nontemporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.

Education

You must meet the minimum basic educational and/or work experience requirements for professional auditing positions in the federal government. This includes:

Degree: A degree in auditing or a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration, or accounting
;
OR
A combination of education and experience: At least four years of experience in performance auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:

-A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), obtained through written examination; OR
-Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting (e.g., 15 semester hours or 22.5 quarter hours).


The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
