About the Position: Serve as Chief, Military Personnel Division and has overall responsibility for the Military Personnel Management Program. Moving expense allowances MAY be authorized, subject an agency determination that a move is in the Government's interest. Recruitment/relocation incentives MAY be offered for this position.

Duties

As a Supervisory HR Specialist (MIL) you will perform duties to include but not limited to the following: Ensure that staff analyze and process personnel actions and awards in an effective, efficient and timely manner. Direct the preparation of human resources personnel actions and reports utilizing automated computer software. Recommend policies, plans, and courses of action affecting the military personnel management program. Review changes in legislation, regulations, and policies, and prepare supplemental and explanatory materials as required. Research program-related issues and draft proposals regarding program initiatives for presentation to leadership. Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, difficulty of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Report real-time information and total asset visibility to ensure accurate gain, loss, duty status, and other strength-related data such as, unit of assignment, specialty code, and status changes. Establish performance standards and rate subordinate employees.

Requirements

  • The incumbent is subject to recall during off-duty hours, to include weekends and holidays, for mission requirements.
  • Temporary duty travel (10% or less) away from the normal duty station may be required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance for the duration of employment.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Incumbent may be required to work overtime on an emergency basis.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12 or above). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to DetailHR Information SystemsHuman Resource and Career DevelopmentPlanning and Evaluating Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12). All applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcements. Current employees applying under VEOA are subject to time-in-grade restrictions like any other GS employee.
