Incumbent serves as an Electronic Technician responsible for the maintenance of electronic equipment and systems at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS). The incumbent will be assigned to the Electronic Technologies Section of the Clinical Engineering in Engineering Service and provide periodic service as needed at the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) located in Austin, Cedar Park, College Station, Palestine and Brownwood.

Duties

Level of Complexity - Deals routinely with sophisticated electronics systems/networks; including nurse call system, fire alarm system, CCTV network entertainment MATV/Cable TV systems, production TV systems, voice paging, overhead paging systems, intercom/public address systems, patient wandering alarm system, satellite TV systems and automated data processing (ADP) equipment, Fire Sprinkler systems; Kitchen Suppression System; Security Access Control Systems; Security Intrusion Alarm System, Security Panic Alarm Systems; Security Surveillance Systems; Pnuematic Tube Systems; and contractor support. In support of these systems the incumbent maybe required to support all or part of these systems located at Community Base Outpatient Clinics (CBOS) located in Austin, Cedar Park, College Station; Palestind, and Brownwood. Test Methods and Techniques - Determine whether or not equipment is performing satisfactorily by designing test systems which includes utilizing and modifying existing test equipment for troubleshooting to repairs variety of system/networks and their components. Must exercise considerable ingenuity and imagination in situations which may require unconventional applications of conventional test instruments and other hardware and software techniques. Maintenance and Prevention Maintenance - Maintain complex electronic system and ADP equipment which are vital to the hospital's ability to provide health care. Plan and perform scheduled and unscheduled (emergency) service on electronic equipment, systems, networks and ADP equipment to ensure that the instruments are working properly, calibrate properly an in compliance with all applicable codes an standards. Purchasing Recommendations - Utilizing superior knowledge of complex systems, serve as a technical advisor and consultant to a wide variety of professional personnel and others in the purchase of new instruments and systems, design of new systems, or modification of existing systems to meet current projected hospital needs. Design - Plan, and perform design, development modification projects on complex electronic systems or comparable individual devices and assemblies. Adopt new and conventional components and circuits in this work and exercises considerable originality in adapting equipment to perform new or different functions to meet staff needs. F. Written Assignments - Utilize advance writing skills to communicate matters of significant importance. Relate results of testing and will recommend courses of actions to be followed. Recommend, design, redesign, modification, reutilization or procedural requirements to equipment users. G. Teaching - responsible for teaching maintenance of complex electronic systems and equipment. H. Level of Responsibility - responsible for maintenance and calibration for complex electronic systems and ADP equipment. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent will continually handle objects weighting up to 20 pounds. and occasionally objects up to 50 pounds. Frequently work will be performed in cramped and awkward positions. The work also requires prolonged periods of standing and walking.
