About the Position: Incumbent serves as Legal Assistant (Office Automation) with the 165th Infantry Brigade. Eligible for situational telework ONLY, including emergency and OPM prescribed "unscheduled telework".

Duties

Provides administrative support in the examination, initiation, and completion of legal actions and documents for review by the Chief, Military Justice or his or her designee(s). Acts as a source of information on Army regulations and guidelines for matters relating to the administration of military justice. Receives and processes legal documents for the full scope of administrative separation actions. Provides Guidance and assistance to legal clerks and military points of contact at the units regarding all legal actions and the appropriate documents and forms required for each.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The work may require occasional TDY travel up to 5% with the Trial Counsel to interview out of state witnesses or to attend professional development training.
  • The work of this position may require the employee to work irregular hours in support of trial times and witness availability, etc.
  • Work may require working alternate or flexible work schedules in conjunction with courts-martial. Some overtime work, night work, and holiday work may be required.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Retrieving and assembling information for hearing and/ or trial use; 2) Researching a variety of legal sources to obtain and/or verify information; 3) Using automated software to produce legal related reports, documents, correspondence and related materials; AND 4) advising on matters of legal administration/processes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). -OR- Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as legal assistance, paralegal studies, or law. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Legal, Government and JurisprudenceOral CommunicationTechnical CompetenceWritten Communication Qualified Typist Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05). NOTE: Applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcement.
