About the Position: This position is a Lead Police Officer (Desk Sergeant) with the Directorate of Emergency Services, Yakima Training Center WA

Duties

Ensure work assignments are distributed and performed in a timely manner by employees; distribute and balance the workload among employees. As a Desk Sergeant, serve as initial point of contact for all in person or telephone communications with the public, concerning law enforcement matters which occur on an assigned shift. Coordinate desk operations with prior and succeeding shifts and ensure that incomplete actions are fully understood. Work in a dual dispatch capacity; monitor communications with mobile patrol units, access control points, and pass directions and information to Police Officers and Security Guards. Provide law enforcement services within the jurisdictional boundaries of the installation; respond to and investigate emergency calls, and cases of domestic abuse and interpersonal violence.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance of access for the duration of employment which includes a background investigation and credit check IAW Army Regulation (AR) 380-67.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) you must report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program. Must sign DA Form 5019 acknowledging both pre-appointment and periodic random drug testing requirements
  • Incumbent is required to graduate from U.S. Army Military Police School (USAMPS) Civilian Police Academy and have completed the Field Training Officer (FTO) Program, in accordance with AR 190-56 within one year of hire.
  • You must comply with Army Civilian Police dress and appearance requirements of AR 670-10, Section II ?Uniform Standards and Specifications? and AR 190-56, Chapter 6 ?Uniforms and Equipment
  • You must successfully complete Telecommunicator I/II trainings, Dispatcher training, and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training, in accordance with AR 525-27.
  • You must obtain and maintain certifications for CPR/first aid techniques, in accordance with AR 190-56
  • Must complete a physical ability test (PAT) to demonstrate the physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position in accordance with AR 190-56
  • Must complete a pre-employment medical examination/periodic medical evaluations to ensure the continued required level of health needed to perform the essential functions of the job in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • Incumbent is required to maintain a high standard of conduct at all times and subject to continuous evaluation unless exempt per para 3?2, AR 190?56
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment Act which bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
  • Incumbent is required to have a valid, state-issued driver's license and must be insurable in accordance with AR 190-56
  • This position requires working outside of normal duty hours during actual or simulated incidents as an emergency response force member and requires on-call on a rotational basis, responding to emergency calls at times beyond the normal duty day.
  • Incumbent must meet all other mandatory requirements of AR 190-56, The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program.
  • Effective 01/20/2001, Public Law 105-554, agencies are required to remove officers convicted of felonies from employment.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
