About the Position: The installation rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio.

Duties

Serve as Clerk of Court and Court Reporter for the 3d Judicial Circuit, Fort Cavazos, Texas, a circuit consisting of four active-duty military judges and as many as six reserve judges. Conduct analysis and evaluation of complex cases to facilitate their trying by the 3d Judicial Circuit. Analyze administrative and legal filings to ensure that the military judge in the case has everything necessary to make timely and accurate rulings on motions and other issues in a trial to assess potential needs. Provide verbatim reporting of military General and Special Courts-Martial proceedings for official record. Using closed microphone, records verbatim general courts-martial proceedings and those special courts-martial empowered to adjudge a bad conduct discharge. Transcribe spoken material and prepare typewritten record of trial in final form following format and style requirements as specified in courts-martial manual, military justice procedures and similar guides. Provide ongoing training to trial and defense counsel, paralegals, and court reporters across Fort Cavazos on software and hardware in the courtroom that is necessary for trial procedures and presentation during trial. Conduct recurring training sessions for counsel and court reporters as they arrive at Fort Cavazos to ensure they are competent on trial procedures and capabilities.

OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. [remove LL.M., if unrelated] in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Law and/or Judicial Science. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Typing Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
