About the Position: Serves as an Inspector General (IG) for the Military District of Washington (MDW). Serves in the capacity of advisor, inspector, and investigator for taskings directed by the Secretary of the Army, Department of Defense (DoD), Department of the Army Inspector General (DAIG), and the Commanding General (CG), while providing complete and comprehensive service to all clients.

Duties

Provide IG assistance to military and civilian personnel, family members, and other Inspectors General within the DoD worldwide, on actions that are sensitive in nature and may have or may cause embarrassment to the Army. Responsible for the initial screening and interviews of personnel requesting assistance from the IG. Respond to various complaints and allegations from various stakeholders, including soldiers, military members, dependents, retirees, civilians, the public, DoD Hotline, DAIG tasks, Congress members, and command-directed special assignments. Conducts teaching and training on Army policy, procedures, systems, and processes to help organizations and individuals improve operations and efficiency, accomplish command objectives, and to educate on processes and systems. Conduct inspections and special interest items, including sensing sessions, surveys, document reviews, and interviews, to identify issues and validate trends in IG Action Request reports. Prepares and drafts military and civilian correspondence for the CIG in accordance with AR 25-50.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Applicants referred for consideration will be subject to a database check against the Army Inspector General Action Request (IGARS) database to screen for substantiated and ongoing IG investigations.
  • A social security number (SSN) is required to conduct the background investigation; applicants must supply their SSN when asked by the hiring authority.
  • Must be able to obtain an Inspector General (IG) certificate from the Inspector General School upon completion of the three week IG Training. Incumbent is subject to removal if unable to obtain certification at the end of training.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • This position requires a valid Driver's License for the duration of employment in order to operate a government vehicle on occasion.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to DetailCommunicationsInformation Gathering Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
