About the Position: This is a Materials Hander Supervisor position located in Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Duties

Conduct weekly, monthly, and long range planning to include establishment of work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates. Establish deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules and methods and policies established by higher levels of supervision. Participate with supervisor in the initial planning of current and future work schedules, budget requests, staffing needs, estimates, and recommendations as to scheduling projected work. Establish and review warehouse layout and storage design, identify needs for streamlined storage and maximum productivity. Explain work requirements, methods, and procedures; instruct subordinates in new procedures; and provides advice when problems arise. Assure that material is ordered and delivered to work sites so as not to delay work.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Moves heavier items with handling equipment or assistance from other workers. Work may be required at a rapid pace for long periods of time. Operating the handling and transport vehicles involves moderate physical effort in moving material and manipulating hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting, raising, lowering, stopping and tilting the loads being moved. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside. Inside areas may be hot, cold, damp, drafty and poorly lighted. Outside work may be performed on loading ramps or in storage yards and may be subject to bad weather conditions: Frequent exposure to temperatures of -40 degrees F and lower. Exposure to dirt, dust, and grease and the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises and falls. Subject to injuries or broken bones because of shifting loads, toppling stacks or overturning when operating forklift. Personnel are subject to exposure from radiation, toxic, explosive or chemical fumes from hazardous materials and waste.
