The purpose of the position is to perform a wide variety of janitorial and custodial work. The work requires substantial physical effort to operate and adjust heavy duty cleaning equipment. Must apply knowledge of infection control and hazardous waste procedures to ensure compliance with safety and health directives. Performs housekeeping duties for which general instructions are received and that require supervision.

Duties

Duties: Sweeps, scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors using brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners, heavy (industrial-type) powered scrubbers and buffers. Completes routine, daily, special, or periodic cleaning tasks to established quality assurance standards using established procedures within allowed time frames. Performs minor maintenance on various pieces of housekeeping equipment. Inspects, uses, and cleans equipment according to established operating instructions and manuals. Works independently and is expected to plan work so that it is accomplished within a specific time frame. Cleans and washes walls and windows. Polishes door knobs and other metal fixtures. Dusts, waxes, and polishes furniture. Dusts ledges, picture frames, and woodwork. Washes walls, windows, and blinds. Empties wastebaskets. Cleans and shampoos rugs/carpets. Work Schedule: 5:00am-5:00pm, 8 hour Tours (Varied Schedules) Position Description Title/PD#: Housekeeping Aid/PD06713A and PD73037A Physical Requirements: The incumbent's duties required lifting over 50 pounds, continuous standing, bending, stooping, walking, use of ladders to change drapes and wash walls, climbing of stairs, and pushing. He/she must understand and follow both oral and written instructions and have sufficient visual ability to see dust, dirt, and cobwebs, etc.

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
