This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. This position is with the US Installation Management Command, US Army Garrison Fort McCoy, DPTMS Training Division, Range Maintenance Section at Ft. McCoy, WI.

Duties

Make authorized repairs to target systems and components. Arrange and install electrical devices to ensure proper and safe operation. Use test equipment such as voltmeters, ohmmeters and watt meters. Read and interpret instructions and technical manuals. Perform general maintenance tasks and assist in maintaining ranges, facilities, and equipment to support range operations. Troubleshooting target systems and components to identify defects.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315
  • This position may be subject to screening and evaluation related to duties involved in Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives (AAE).

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Target Systems Worker (MVO)~ without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show ability to perform maintenance on electrical wiring such as tightening and replacing broken or cut wires, diagnosing electrical wiring problems; and using automated systems. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. ??????? Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element) Physical Effort: Make repairs and installations from ladders, trenches, and hard to reach places. Stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work requires climbing up and down a steep flight of stairs to perform assignments. Frequently lifts and carries equipment and parts that weigh up to 45 pounds. Working Conditions: Work primarily outside, in dirt, dust, mud, windy and cold/hot weather. Is occasionally exposed to possibility of broken bones, electrical shock and burns. Is required to wear and/or use protective clothing and equipment in accordance with established health and safety regulations and SOP's. Exposed to dangers of live fire ranges, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies and explosives. May be exposed to chemicals when handling batteries used in operating remote controlled target devices. Is exposed to the possibility of abrasions, cuts, burns, and electrical shock. Simulators contain explosive charges equivalent to a 1/4 pound charge of TNT. Gun Fire simulator requires charging compressed gasses (oxygen) and flammable gasses (propane). This factor is evaluated at the WG-8 level. ???????Work is performed in a Range Training Area where unspent rounds of ammunition may be found. Position requires handling and identification of ammunitions, explosives and Unexploded Ordnance (UXO).
