These positions are located within the Division of Facilities, Operations, and Maintenance (DFOM), which delivers facility-related services including operations, maintenance, design, and construction of facilities in the Durham, NC and Bethesda MD.

Duties

As a Utility Systems Repairer Operator Leader, you will: Independently perform extensive inspections and testing of utilities systems and equipment, associated building and facilities systems and equipment to ensure proper operation and adherence to standards and tolerances. Start, stop, operate, make adjustment, maintain, and repair various utilities systems i.e., chilled water, condensate, steam, HVAC and other systems and repair equipment to dampers, control valves, room temperatures, heat exchangers, and other equipment within the facilities. Visually inspect, and from results of diagnostic tests and general utilities system knowledge, locate the cause of malfunction and make necessary adjustments or repairs to restore to working order various types of utilities systems and equipment, and associated facilities, building systems and equipment. Independently operate and monitor virtual Building Automation Systems control console and utilities systems from different buildings. Lead other Utility Systems Repairer Operators and Maintenance Mechanics in accomplishing the assigned work. Lead other Utility Systems Repairer Operators and Maintenance Mechanics in following safety practices and procedures and established safety rules and regulations in maintaining a safe and clean work environment.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

  • This position requires weekend hours, night shifts, regular or rotational shifts, and holiday hours.
  • This position has on-call or call-back requirements.
  • If selected, you must pass a pre-employment medical examination.
  • The selectee must possess and maintain a valid state motor vehicle license.
  • Position is covered by a bargaining unit (union).
  • You may work in hazardous environments or handle hazardous substances.

Qualifications

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position.
