The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is May but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: beginning of May 2024.

Duties

Typical duties of this position include daily janitorial duties, ensuring park visitor centers and public areas are open and ready to greet park visitors. Incumbent will conduct grounds maintenance by operating riding and push mowers and using various other pieces of equipment. Equipment incumbent operates and performs maintenance on varies from push mowers, snow blowers or chainsaws to skid steer and a 65-horsepower tractor. Incumbent will be responsible for snow removal using shovels, walk behind blowers and tractor/skid steer with blades or blower. Work includes maintaining three miles of hiking trails and conducting tree work. Makes repairs to buildings and other park features such as fence repair: tasks include replacing or repairing building hardware, painting, plumbing, conducting minor electrical work, minor carpentry to welding. Supports park's education and interpretive programs by assisting with set up of stage, tents, and chairs. Work will include working some weekends, evenings, and holidays. Emergency snow removal work may include weekends, evenings, and holidays. Incumbent must be able to use computers for work such as sending and receiving electronic correspondence (e-mails), completing weekly work entries into Facility Management Software System (FMSS) automated data maintenance program, and completing inventories and reports on supplies and materials used. Physical Demands: The work performed requires the exertion of very heavy physical effort in operating large riding mowers; or lawn and garden tractors on grades and in areas with bushes, trees, and other visible obstacles that require significant maneuvering and lever control. The work involves lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80 to 100 pounds (or more) with assistance. Working Conditions: Outside work is usually performed under all kinds of weather conditions. Indoor work is often accomplished in office buildings or in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas such as warehouses, loading docks, or trade shops. Frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust, and dirt and the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes. The equipment, tools, and tasks involved frequently require extreme care and use of safety gloves, ear plugs, safety glasses, or respirators to avoid severe injuries.
