About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.

Duties

Serve as an investigator/inspector in the Inspector General (IG) Office, West Point, New York, working independently, or as a team member for assigned portions of the Command's IG Program. Receive, process, and respond to complaints and requests for assistance emanating from a variety of sources such as the general public, military personnel and their dependents, and civilian employees. Conduct assistance inquiries, investigation, and investigative inquiries into allegations of mismanagement, fraud, waste or abuse, improper conduct, abuse of privileges or power, etc. Research existing regulations, policies, and precedents. Participate in present findings and recommendations to management. Serve as Information Management Officer and Site Administrator in the maintenance of the Inspector General Worldwide Network (IGNET). Serve as Government Purchase Cardholder responsible for purchasing supplies and equipment for the office.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Applicants referred for consideration will be subject to a database check against the Army Inspector General Action Request (IGARS) database to screen for substantiated and on-going Inspector General (IG) investigations.
  • The incumbent must successfully graduate from U.S. Army Inspector General School and maintain certification in accordance with Army Regulation (AR) 20-1.
  • The incumbent must practice and maintain IG attributes as mandatory requirements for continued employment as an Army Inspector General as required in AR 20-1.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
