Duties

This role provides a construction inspector to perform inspection of projects of varied and complex nature to include electrical, mechanical and structural aspects of construction.  The purpose of the position is provide oversight and inspection on a wide range of construction projects.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Engineering aid or technician or surveying technician performing work directly related to construction.Construction inspector or construction representative responsible for interpreting plans and specifications, inspecting materials and workmanship, and insuring adherence to safety requirements.Supervisor of craftspersons, equipment operators, or mechanics engaged in construction work, provided that the experience involved responsibility for interpreting plans and specifications and inspecting workmanship for adherence to such plans and specifications. AT THE GS-09: Applicant must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level in the federal service. Examples of specialized experience include Developing and executing a contract inspection plan for each project; attending progress/review meetings to discuss contract changes, construction delays, or to clarify contract language; utilizing instruments and equipment to test installed materials and workmanship; observing tests to evaluate efficiency and adequacy of performance; providing technical data to support the establishment of priorities for work; preparing and writing detailed reports on deficiencies found during inspections; performing structural inspections of buildings, water tanks, light towers, warves, loading ramps, and other structures. Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.  Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
