About the Position: This Health Technician (Occupational) position is located at Naval Hlth Clin, Patuxent River, Dir. of Clinical Support Occupational Medicine. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Provide patient screening such as vision, vital signs, spirometry, audiometry and electrocardiograms (EKGs) and reviews results for completeness and accuracy. Verify and orders all indicated laboratory studies, x-rays, immunizations, and other ancillary tests as appropriate. Maintain medical records. Counsel patients in regard to their test results, health promotion topics and workplace health hazards. Facilitate the safe and effective operation of medical equipment and contributes to a safe working environment. Provides administrative support such as patient scheduling and coordination of pre-placement and routine physical exams

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain: an approved certification in Audiometry and NIOSH approved course in Spirometry within 2 years of appointment.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 15 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which performing various screenings, such as vision, vital signs, spirometry, audiometry, and electrocardiograms (EKGs), documenting data in medical records, and operating medical equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Occupational Health. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
