The Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Competition (BC) is seeking a Supervisory Paralegal Specialist to oversee all aspects of its paralegal-level administrative and litigation support activities, as well as coordinate and provide strategic management and direction on BC's attorney and legal recruitment and hiring. Duties

If you are selected for this Supervisory Paralegal Specialist position, your responsibilities may include some or all of the following: Providing leadership, direction, coordination, strategic planning and control over management of the Honors Paralegal Division; Developing and implementing plans for paralegal support for all Bureau of Competition (BC) casework and litigation as a technical expert, including prioritizing workload and making decisions with respect to staff assignments based on substantive understanding of antitrust law and law enforcement proceedings; Providing supervision, training, and oversight to all paralegal program participants; Managing and overseeing all aspects of recruitment and hiring of attorney and legal support staff for BC; Developing standardized policies and procedures for legal and paralegal hiring and recruitment, including developing and disseminating recruitment materials; Overseeing marketing and outreach projects relating to BC's recruiting efforts and represents BC at in-person and virtual informational sessions to promote BC's employment opportunities to a broad range of universities, law schools, and affinity groups; Implementing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) principles and best practices in BC's hiring processes; Coordinating, planning, administering, and facilitating training programs and working groups for division management and individuals involved in BC's hiring and recruitment efforts; and Planning, coordinating, administering, and facilitating training and mentoring programs for legal intern program participants.

Requirements

  • You must meet time-in-grade requirement by the closing date of this vacancy.

  • This position is not in the bargaining unit.
  • This position is designated as eligible for remote work. If selected, you must be approved for remote work prior to onboarding in accordance with FTC's Workplace Flexibilities Policy.
  • If approved for remote work or telework from a regional office, your salary may change based on your official duty station.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Supervisory Paralegal Specialist position at the GS-14 level, you must meet the following requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing technical and administrative guidance and assignments to subordinates; identifying developmental and training needs of employees and providing such development and training as necessary; planning the work to be accomplished by your subordinates and evaluating work performance; implementing and developing effective and strategic plans for recruiting talent; and representing an organization at recruiting events or similar gatherings providing information. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
