Duties

Install and repair large climate-controlled systems and direct digital control systems which provide a variety of air conditioning functions. Install and repair large and complex heating units and systems composed of high pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment which produce steam and hot water for distribution. Test and make complete repairs on numerous, complex equipment such as superheaters, preheaters, economizers, feed water regulators, pollution control devices, generators, and steam turbines. Dismantle, repair, and reassemble pumps, impellers, compressors, chillers, receivers, evaporators, etc. by installing and fitting connecting rods, crank shafts, piston rings, bearings, and bushings.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation NACI T1.
• Completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• Position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• Obtain and maintain a Material Handling Equipment (MHE) License.
• Obtain and maintain a Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification.

Install and repair a variety of domestic and commercial refrigeration and-air conditioning units and systems, install and repair large and complex heating units and systems composed of high-pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment, and diagnose the cause of faulty air conditioning and heating equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed inside as well as outdoors in different types of weather. Incumbent is subject to frequent temperature changes and is exposed to gas and smoke, dust, scalding water, fumes, cuts, burns, and electrical shock. Protective devices are provided as required.
