Duties

Duty Locations: Whiskeytown National Recreation Area Duties: Prepares surfaces by scraping wire brushing, masking, spackling and sanding surfaces. Cleans, degreases and removes oil or wax buildup. Removes scale, rust, dirt and old paint from surfaces so that coating materials will adhere properly. Obtains supplies and equipment, sets up ladders and scaffolds, covers items with drop cloths and tape, and performs all necessary preparatory work. Mixes, thins, blends, matches, tints, and tones coating materials following specific oral and written directives. Applies coating materials such as primers, paints, varnishes, shellacs, using standard application techniques and ensures that coating finish meets surface protection requirements. Uses and maintains tools. Uses tools such as brushes, rollers, spray guns, graining devices, compressors, as well as common hand and power tools to do the work. Maintains records and documents actions. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing. Additional duties may include assisting with the seasonal opening and closing of the facilities. Occasionally provides custodial services to buildings and restrooms. Occasionally patrols trails and assists with maintenance repairs. Physical Demands: The employee prepares and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms, and in situations where the surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard to reach places. The incumbent must have the ability to lift, carry and set up materials and equipment that weighs up to 10 pounds, and occasionally, may be required to handle materials and equipment that weighs 40 pounds and over. Working Conditions: The work is done inside and outside, with dirt, spray, and fumes usually present. The employee is sometimes required to prepare, treat and coat surfaces outside in all types of weather.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of a Painting Worker without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT) Painting various surfaces ensuring for a smooth surface. Mix, match and tint paint. Apply filler to rough surfaces. Check requirements written instructions. Used a variety of painter's tools of the trade such as: brushes, rollers, spray guns, graining devices, and compressors.
