About the Position: This Health Technician (Sterile Processing) position is with the Directorate of Surgical Speciialties located at Keesler AFB, Mississippi.

Duties

Performs quality assurance testing on all equipment used in the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments. Prepares contaminated surgical items for sterilization procedures. Monitors and track surgical instruments through the use of automated instrument tracking log/system. Check the expiration date on all sterile supply items. Decontaminates and cleans items manually or mechanically by washer-sterilizers, cart washer and ultrasonic units. Operates power equipment to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments. Disassembles, decontaminates and reassembles equipment and complex delicate instrumentation for proper decontamination and use. Disassemble surgical items, to smallest component level for cleaning and sterilization.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been designated as a Testing Designated Position and is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing thereafter.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • This position requires the employee to wear and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes using various decontamination and cleaning procedures; using different procedures dependent upon the items; and experience operating medical and other equipment such as washer-sterilizers, automatic washers, index washers, cart washers, automated endoscopic reprocessing units, automatic dryers, and ultrasonic units.
