The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Deputy Director to the Group Commander (O-6) exercising supervisory and managerial authorities over the 7th Maintenance Group.

Duties

Plans, organizes, and oversees activities within the 7th Maintenance Group as the Deputy Director of Maintenance. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Represents the 7 Maintenance Group (MXG) with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Manages, evaluates, and presents data, project proposals, and or reports. Participates in special projects and initiatives and performs special assignments, including long-term planning, functional/technical advice, and guidance and continuity of management.

  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Administrative and Management Positions for Equipment Facilities and Services Series, 1601. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of aircraft maintenance operations, including a comprehensive knowledge of bomber aircraft maintenance requirements, including but not limited to sortie generation, scheduled/unscheduled maintenance, backshop/component repair, repair network management, and maintenance data collection/analysis. Extensive experience with the B-1 Mission Design Series (MDS) is highly desirable. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. Extensive experience with aircraft maintenance management and munitions experience is highly desirable. Knowledge of large-scale aircraft logistics support organizations and of functions and operations of other Higher Headquarters, Air Force Sustainment Centers, Air Force Life Cycle Management Centers, the Global Logistics Supply Center, the System Program Office, and other related organizations. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in­-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of aircraft maintenance operations, including a comprehensive knowledge of bomber aircraft maintenance requirements, including but not limited to sortie generation, scheduled/unscheduled maintenance, backshop/component repair, repair network management, and maintenance data collection/analysis. Extensive experience with the B-1 Mission Design Series (MDS) is highly desirable. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. Extensive experience with aircraft maintenance management and munitions experience is highly desirable. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors. Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of large-scale aircraft logistics support organizations and of functions and operations of other Higher Headquarters, Air Force Sustainment Centers, Air Force Life Cycle Management Centers, the Global Logistics Supply Center, the System Program Office, and other related organizations. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
