This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0733000 and is part of the FL 125th FW, National Guard.

Duties

As a, AIRCRAFT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR, WS-8852-09, you will plan and schedules specific work assignments on a daily or project-to-project basis within specified time requirements. Arranges for adequate personnel, materials and equipment to accomplish the work. Assign tasks to be performed. Explains prescribed methods and procedures; instructs subordinates on new procedures and provides assistance on problems. Reviews work in progress and oncompletion. Obtains approval from supervisor for changes in standard or prescribed procedures and changes in work operations. Suggests ways or methods to improve operations or reduce costs. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement. Sometimes must work in awkward positions or cramped areas. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to about 40 pounds. Lifts heavier items using jacks, hoist, or helpers. WORKING CONDITIONS: May work inside or outside. Inside, is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperature, and loud noise. Outside, may work in bad weather, in rain or snow, or in wet or icy areas. Both inside and outside, is frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or surfaces.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Security Clearance requirements are determined by position and/or MOS/AFSC compatibility.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: This position is in the Excepted Federal Civil Service "under the authority of 32 U.S.C. 709", and is open to Category 1 & 3 Only. Category 1: All permanent/indefinite (T32 and T5) technicians employed by the agency WITH dual FL National Guard military membership; Category 3: All current military members of the Florida National Guard. AIR-PCS: Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs, Recruitment or Relocation Incentive MAY be authorized. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses, Recruitment or Relocation Incentive will be granted ONLY after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Florida National Guard. MILITARY GRADE: Enlisted; E7 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WS-09- Must have at least 1 year of experience at the next lower level performing training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification; experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow; must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container; experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel; experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines; experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function; experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes; experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
