This position serves as the Supervisory Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. As a Supervisory Supply Technician, you will ensure that supplies and material are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics by directing, supervising and managing the primary inventory point that receives, stores and issues supplies and materials for both clinical and administrative service areas of the medical center

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/12/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the following: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this Supervisory Supply Technician (Medical) position. Specialized experience includes: planning and coordinating work to be accomplished by other staff; establishing priorities for a department; overseeing the receipt and distribution of supplies and materials for a complex medical center; maintaining stock at inventory locations; monitors expiration dates; ensure supplies are delivered timely; training new employees and answering questions on local processes and procedures; ensuring proper storage of supplies and materials; resolving problems and providing guidance to others on logistics activities; and making recommendations on improvement of wok production and quality of work. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: Work is normally accomplished within a supply office and supply distribution points with the majority of time utilizing the automated inventory system for inventory management, processing orders, distributing supplies, conducting physical inventories in the warehouse and various supply points. Responsible for the storage and distribution of supplies to both primary and secondary inventory points, as well as within the bulk supply areas. This may include movement of stock to assist in counting, storing, rotating, and retrieving items from shelves and cabinets. Physical exertions and demands include standing, walking, bending, stretching, reaching, and pushing/pulling supply carts and lifting supplies up to 50 pounds are required. Works primarily in a supply office and supply distribution points that support the Storage and Distribution of supplies. Multiple interruptions are experience throughout the day resulting from telephone and personal contacts with individuals requiring information, guidance, or problem solving. Protective and special clothing is worn to prevent exposure to dangerous materials; hair covers, shoe covers, and gloves are worn as required when delivering supplies into clean/sterile areas and managing verification of inventory stock levels within the primaries. Physical dispersion of the facility may make it necessary to make deliveries over uneven terrain and/or in adverse weather conditions.
