This position is a Supervisory Criminal Investigator Special Agent in Charge, GS- 1811-15 working in Atlanta, GA for the R9-Chief-Office of Law Enforcement. As Supervisory Criminal investigator, you will be responsible for and accountable for Regional law enforcement programs, operations, and activities

Duties

The mission of the Office of Law Enforcement is to protect wildlife resources. Through the effective enforcement of Federal laws, the Office of Law Enforcement contributes to the Fish and Wildlife Service efforts to recover endangered species, conserve migratory birds, preserve wildlife habitat, safeguard fisheries, combat invasive species, and promote global wildlife conservation. As a Supervisory Criminal Investigator Special Agent in Charge your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Plans region's annual and long-range law enforcement programs; manages the program's execution, including the budget; manages the subordinate managers, supervisors and employees Coordinates with U.S. Attorneys, officials of other nations, Indian Tribes, and officials from other agencies for the purpose of protecting wildlife and enforcing and developing and implementing national and international wildlife agreements Conducts a full range of planning, including the development, implementation, and integration with other regional and Service programs, of intermediate to long-range plans from a budgetary and program management standpoint Conducts regional activities in enforcing the fish and wildlife laws, through a corps of Special Agents involves: investigation, interviewing witnesses, interrogating suspects, conducting raids, securing and serving warrants, making arrests etc. Manages the operations of the Service's wildlife inspection program, through a corps of Wildlife Inspectors. These employees assure the proper granting of permits, collection of appropriate fees, and the seizure of illegal shipments.

  • Drug testing position: Selectees tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Medical Requirements: Selectees must pass a pre-employment medical examination and may be subject to post-employment medical examinations to determine if they are maintaining the fitness standards for this position.
  • Driver’s License: Selectees MAY be required to possess and maintain a valid State driver's license at all times during their tenure.
  • Firearm: Selectees will be required to carry a firearm in the performance of your duties.
  • Supervisory Probationary Period: Selectees who have not previously completed a supervisory probationary period, will be required to serve a one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period for this position.
  • Notice of Financial Disclosure Report Requirement: This position is subject to a financial disclosure requirement and you will be required to complete either OGE Form 278e or OGE Form 450 as applicable within 30 days of your appointment

  • Criminal Investigators must, on an annual basis, work an average of 2 hours of unscheduled duty in excess of each regular workday to be eligible for Law Enforcement Availability Pay, which is 25% of the annual base pay.

Qualifications

Only experience and education obtained by 01/09/2024 will be considered. In order to qualify for this position you must possess Minimum Qualification. Minimum Qualification GS-15 One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to direct law enforcement policy and staff functions; developing short-and long-range plans and formulating and implementing policies, standards and procedures for a regional or national law enforcement program; supervising law enforcement staff work on programmatic issues, and advising management concerning controversial and complex issues. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time In Grade Requirement: Applicants must meet both eligibility and qualification requirements for the position of interest by the closing date of the JOA. Specifically, i. Area of Consideration. ii. Time-in-grade (TIG) requirements as specified in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. iii. Time after competitive appointment as specified in 5 CFR 330.502. iv.
