This position is located in Grand Teton National Park, within the Facility Management Division. This job announcement is open to receive applications from the first 50 applicants. Duties

This position is the maintenance mechanic for the utilities branch within Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway. Duties include: Electrical - performs installation, preventative maintenance and repairs on new and existing electrical systems within the park. Plumbing - installs, modifies and repairs new and existing utility, supply and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil and gas distribution systems. Could also include water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers. AC Equipment Mechanic - Responsible for the operation, installation, repair and maintenance of several types of HVAC systems and controls with a variety of components. Utility Systems Repairer-Operator - Troubleshoot, repair, modify, overhaul, test, calibrate and install a variety of industrial and precision instruments and equipment. Also works on alternating current (AC) electrical systems and circuits. Lower graded duties include carpentry, painting, water and wastewater treatment plant operations, roofing, welding, cement finishing, and operating vehicles such as tractors, forklifts, snowmobiles and other government vehicles to transport materials, people and supplies. Physical Effort: Heavy to moderate work and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50-100 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions. This requires standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and cramped positions. Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures can range from -40 to 90+ degrees) with significant snowfall potential for half of the year. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals (paints, solvents, etc) and around moving equipment. May be exposed to electrical shocks and biting insects. The incumbent's clothing may become soiled from grease, dust, and chemicals. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, falling, burns, broken bones, chemical vapors, constant noise, rotating machinery, dust, grease, chemicals, oil, fumes, and infectious blood pathogens when working in or about systems. Incumbent may also be exposed to energized circuits, electrical shock, burns, electrical rotary devices, cuts and abrasions from the use of tools and equipment and burns from chemicals. The incumbent is required to wear prescribed safety equipment and to adhere to safety rules and regulations, and standards as set by OSHA and the Park's established safety plan. Snowmobile operation is occasionally required for winter operations at some park locations. Area Information: Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway in northwestern Wyoming preserve a spectacular landscape. The park encompasses the Teton Range and broad valley of Jackson Hole. Majestic peaks, wild canyons, piedmont lakes, forests, sagebrush meadows and the Snake River combine into one of the most scenic settings anywhere in North America. With 333,000 combined acres, the parks are at the heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of the most biologically diverse regions of the world. Additionally, the park includes a wide array of cultural resources, including 318 historic structures, two national historic landmarks and over 300 archeological sites.Grand Teton is one of the most visited national parks in the country. This position is located in Colter Bay, WY. Services are available in the neighboring town of Jackson, a small, recreation focused community of 10,000 year-round residents. The town caters to four million tourists every summer, has an excellent hospital, well-respected school system, grocery stores, restaurants, and seasonal festivals. Outdoor activities abound including hiking, camping, backpacking, horseback riding, boating, biking, fishing, skiing, and mountaineering. Summer temperatures range between 65 - 80 degrees. Winter temperatures range from 30 degrees to below zero with heavy snow. Government housing is available as this position is a required occupant.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following screen out job element: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT) Applicants must show in their application package that they are able to perform most of the work as a Maintenance Mechanic at the journeyman level. At this level, applicants are able to perform the work with a high level of independence. This level must be performed in at least two of the following trades: Masonry, Electrical, Plumbing, Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic, Utilities Systems Repair-Operator and Engineering Equipment Operator. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
