The primary purpose of this position, MACHINIST TRAINING LEADER WL-3414-10, is to provide a training and working leader for the Machinist portion of the Structures Section in the Aircraft Repair Branch. Duty Title: Structures Leader (Machinist)

Duties

Oversee the implementation of the master formal training plan; conduct training to refresh or broaden the skills of experienced Machinist. Lead and train employees. Set up and operate machine shop equipment. Assist mechanics by performing the simpler and more routine duties of the sheet metal trade and working with the journey level mechanics as instructed. Use a variety of tools (powered and non-powered), standard and Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) machines and equipment and precision measurement tools and equipment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3400 Machine Tool Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability to Lead or Supervise JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1- Operation of Machine Tools 2- Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) 3- Ability to use Shop Drawings 4- Measurement and Layout 5- Ability to use Hand Tools for Machine Shop 6- Knowledge of Metals PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL EFFORT: May experience periods of prolonged standing. Moderate to heavy lifting of no more than 50 pounds. Will experience stooping, bending, reaching, and stretching. Climbing in, on, or through aircraft with equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL. WORKING ENVIORNMENT: Works inside shop and can spend up to 75% of time outside of shop performing surfaces requirements. Can be tasked to go TDY anytime during the reporting period, this includes seminars, school, and/or training purposes. Incumbent is exposed to oils which may cause skin irritation, dermatitis or allergy. Subject to eye injury, electrical shock, broken bones, burns, and cuts from shop equipment, metal and various chemicals and falls from maintenance stands. May have exposure to chemical fumes and heat. May be be exposed to high noise levels.
