This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain DoD Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: ???????7th Signal Command. 106th Signal Brigade - Joint Base Lewis McChord, WA.

Duties

Serve as quality control inspector to ensure that contractor workmanship and materials meet government requirements and specifications. Evaluate proposals by contractors on materials or job phases, and coordinate cable transfers and additions to outside plant facilities to prevent service interruptions. Troubleshoot, repair, modify and maintain aerial, buried and underground duct cables including associated pressurization. Prepare cable for splicing by pulling in cable to underground duct systems, burying or securing to aerial supports. Use arc fusion splicer, ultraviolet mechanical or rotary mechanical splicer to connect fiber optic cables. Install or remove aerial, buried, and underground duct telephone communication cables. Install manholes, duct systems, poles, cross arms, drop wire, cross connect boxes, anchors, cable routes, etc. Locate, mark, and inform others of cables and underground systems using cable maps, prints, schematics and electronic locating devices.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a current and valid Washington State Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Wire Communications Cable Splicing Inspector ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common troubleshooting all types of telephone equipment and distribution systems; using tools/equipment such as holehawgs, rotohamers, drill motors hot metal pots, aerial buckets, ladders; and common hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, hammers. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating Physical Effort - Work requires frequent bending, stooping, squatting, climbing, pulling cables, and working in cramped or uncomfortable conditions, underground or at moderate heights for extended periods. Frequently lifts and carries 20 to 100 pounds. Work requires occasional use of metal lineman spurs and safety belt. Working Conditions - Works inside and outside in all weather conditions, and occasionally in crawlways under buildings or in attics. Exposed to injuries from use of hand tools, electrical shock while working with cables which may be electrically charged, falls from high places when installingor repairing aerial cables, and noxious fumes in manholes.???????
