About the Position: This position is with USA IMA NATIONAL TRAINING CENTER, OFFICE OF THE GARRISON COMMANDER, STAFF JUDGE ADVOCATE, ADMIN/CIVIL LAW DIVISION, FORT IRWIN, CA.

Duties

Screen and evaluate clients' requests, in person and telephonically, determining the appropriate method of assistance. Conduct clerical duties such as answer routine questions; schedule appointments; draft, edit and compose non-legal memoranda, reports, statistics, and correspondence using a personal computer and peripheral equipment; manage files. Assess needs of the client; determine client's legal status-based interview, a review legal documents and research applicable laws and/or regulations to determine eligibility for benefits and privileges. Provide assistance and notary public services on other issues related to paternity, marriage, divorce, death, wills, powers of attorney, bankruptcy, nonsupport, real estate, etc. Conduct Legal Research and compile legal documents for the Legal Assistance attorneys to use in advising clients. Prepare affidavits.

Under direction and review provide research and assistance with a variety of eligibility questions for subjects such as immigration and naturalization. Perform work such as first contact with customers to determine who will assist them, schedule appointments, assist with completing forms, creating written documents and using automated office equipment for things such as permanent residency, citizenship, Visas or replacement of Alien Registration Card. Also assist with other domestic, legal and administrative issues such as divorce, death, will or entitlements. Also learn to perform office administrative duties such as answering phone, scheduling appointments, updating files and reports and use computers and other office equitment. OR Have successfully completed one and a half years (i.e., 27 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as legal or paralegal studies or paralegal certification or its equivalent. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Have the specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have some graduate level education as described in B, but less than the required one and a half years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond one year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
