This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Southwest Region in Albuquerque, New Mexico to provide title service and maintenance to Indian reservations and public domain areas of federal trust tribal/individual land. NOTE: TRAVEL AND RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL NOT BE AUTHORIZED. ANY RELOCATION EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH REPORTING FOR DUTY WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED EMPLOYEE.

Duties

Provide title service and maintenance to Indian reservations and public domain area. Updates ownership records in the Trust Asset Accounting Management System (TAAMS). Examines extremely difficult, complex, multiple ownership, or controversial title cases taking into consideration all legal ramifications pertaining thereto. Make determinations in title examinations and recording situations. Determines what legal sources apply, defines issues, and determines applicable principles of law.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions for Legal Instruments Examining Series, 0963). GS-9: 1 year of full-time specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-8 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). Examples of specialized experience include examining high complex and unique land records cases; extensive knowledge working with trust and real property laws; examines the full range of recorded instruments for the acquisition and disposal of real property rights pertaining to trust, restricted fee, and government owned lands to completion; independently plans, organizes, conducts thorough research, and analyzes legal documents pertaining to each title reviewed; updates ownership records in the automated land ownership data system, including probate orders and/or title documents; ensures title ownership is current and accurate for the disbursement of all income generating tracts. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). Additional selections may be made from this announcement if identical vacancies occur in the same location within 90 days from the closing date.
