About the Position: Assist the Safety action officer, and program representative responsible for performing a variety of technical, analytical, advisory, consultative, liaison, and coordinating duties related to planning, maintaining and implementing the Installation Command Safety Program. Incumbent works under closer supervision and works in a developmental capacity performing assignments and completing training,

Duties

Investigates mishaps, obtains statements from witnesses, and photographs mishap scene. Advises supervisors and safety representatives of appropriate safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes or environmental conditions. Prepares and revises safety instructions and guides that are relevant to current or planned contractor and base employees. Conducts safety and occupational health inspections and surveys, performs inspection of construction projects and designs to determine compliance with applicable occupational safety standards. Provides technical safety training to supervisors and employees using a wide variety of materials, publications, exhibits, protective devices, and visual aids.

One year of specialized experience which includes 1) assisting in managing safety or occupational health program elements to eliminate or control potential hazards; 2) assisting in safety and occupational health problems, conditions and administrative practices affecting work operations and environmental conditions; and 3) conducting quality of surveys and inspections conducted, the adequacy of techniques applied to control or eliminate hazards and the physical safety and occupational health of employees and the general public. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07) OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or master's or equivalent graduate degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Accident/Mishap and Hazard Investigation and ReportingCompliance InspectionSafety and HealthSafety and Health Training and Education Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
