This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Northwest Region, Fort Hall Agency, Branch of Irrigation, in Fort Hall, Idaho. NOTE: TRAVEL AND RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL NOT BE AUTHORIZED. ANY RELOCATION EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH REPORTING FOR DUTY WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED EMPLOYEE. NOTE: This is a temporary position not-to-exceed one (1) year; however; the position may be extended up to one (1) additional year without further competition.

Duties

Manually removes debris (moss, pond weed, trash) from irrigation canals. Cuts and removes trees from canal right-of-ways. Assists in the construction of pipelines, control structures, canals, and various equipment. Provides assistance to carpenters, mechanics, welders, equipment operators, etc. in performing various tasks. Perform hand and shovel work as needed to maintain Project facilities. Sprays weeds on canal banks, around project buildings and around fixed equipment to minimize infestations. Organize materials and tools for easy access to other crew members. Setup, adjust and adapt hand and power tools to accomplish tasks.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations (X-118C, Qualification Standard Handbook) will be used in determining applicants' qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through the experience shown in your written resume and your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision. BASIS OF RATING: The first job element is the screen-out element (Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision). Applicants who do not meet the minimum quality level of experience for this element will be rated ineligible and will receive no further consideration for this position. SCREEN OUT: Element #1: Ability to Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out) I have performed a full range of duties normally required in the maintenance of a irrigation system without more than normal supervision such as cleaning, and removing debris, cut and remove trees, landscaping (i.e., moving, edging, irrigation, trimming shrubs and trees, raking leaves); digging ditches, mixing and placing concrete, construction of pipelines, control structures, canals, hand and shovel work. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). Additional selections may be made from this announcement if identical vacancies occur in the same location within 90 days from the closing date.
