About the Position: Position may be filled as a temporary promotion or detail NTE 1 year by a current permanent Army employee. Temporary promotions or details may be extended up to a maximum of five years and may be made permanent without further competition.

Duties

Utilize specialized tools and sandblasting equipment. Make adjustments and preventive maintenance repairs to sandblasting equipment. Set controls and regulate amount of abrasive material flowing through sandblasting nozzle. Apply operating and maintenance manual instructions to maintain sandblasting equipment. Determine gauge of air pressure, mounts, and mixtures of abrasive compounds for stubborn contaminants and heavy corrosion. Identify the composition (metal/non-metal) of item to select appropriate blasting techniques to optimize dwell time required to complete blasting assignments.

Requirements

  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain SECRET security clearance
  • Incumbent must pass pre-employment and annual physicals.
  • Business travel requirement up to 50%.
  • Shift work and overtime may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Sandblaster without more than normal supervision. Perform common Sandblaster tasks including cleaning metal parts of various equipment; preparing for blasting by masking or covering; and setting controls and regulating the amount of abrasive material flows through a sandblasting nozzle. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Lifts, carries, and sets up equipment and components weighing up to 75 lbs. Controls blasting hose with nozzles subject to high pressure, i.e. up to 100 psi. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside booth which may be extremely hot during summer months. Is exposed to noise, dust, and flying abrasive material. Must wear protective suit (supplied with air while being used) at all times. Be on the alert for malfunctions to sandblast and safety equipment.
