These positions are located in the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of the Logistics Service at the West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain and Brockton, Massachusetts Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area.

Duties

The Supply Technician will provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment.Major Duties include but are not limited to: Pulling stock inventory and material for delivery; replenishes stock inventory; interacts with clinical and administrative customers and maintains records on stock levels; Communicating to the Lead or Supervisor any concerns related to supplies, equipment and procedures; Providing information to customers regarding medical supplies; Monitoring expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates; Monitoring and controls critical supplies; Performing daily inventory using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment; Resolving differences between records and physical count of stock; Distributing items according to established or ad hoc requirements in computerized inventory management systems; Delivering supplies in a timely manner and ensures supplies and material delivered are in sterile and operational condition; Completing specialty cart preparation; Cleaning assigned secondary areas in accordance with aseptic principles; and Receiving supplies and material into the medical center's catchment area. Work Schedule: M-F, 7:00AM - 3:30PM or 1:00pm - 9:30PM; May involve nights and weekends as assigned. Interchange Agreements with Other Merit System: Employees who occupy medical or medical-related positions and were appointed under 38 U.S.C. 4701(1) or (3) [formerly 38 U.S.C. 4104 (1) and (3)] must be serving in a full-time position without time limit and have served continuously for at least one year in this other merit system to be eligible to convert to the Title 5 System. Some exceptions to this rule may apply if you have previously acquired tenure under a Title 5 appointment. Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. This position is a NAGE Bargaining Unit position. This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/30/2023. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Maintaining stock at primary and secondary inventory locations Performing daily inventory and replenishing stock Distributing inventory items utilizing a computerized inventory system OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have four (4) years above high school. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond 60 semester hours. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Attention to DetailCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)ReasoningTechnical CompetenceTechnology Application Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items' weighing over 40 pounds.
