This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Hawaii is a beautiful state, but has a high cost of living. Hawaii has many outdoor activities all year round including surfing, paddling, diving, fishing, and hiking.

Duties

Investigate roof leaks. Determine the source of leaks. Prepare roofs for repairs by removing old and installing new roof, shingles, tiles, etc. Install and/or replace metal flashings, gutters, and other roofing accessories. Paint metal roofs and gutters.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Responds to emergency calls after regular working hours.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a current valid state driver’s license and any installation and/or DoD requirement for the type of vehicle being driven.
  • Roofers are frequently required to perform heavy lifting up to 45 kilograms 91 pounds while carrying rolls of roofing felt, shingles and asphalt.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or rotational shifts.
  • Assures environmental, safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
  • Protective devices such as but not limited to ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat, and safety shoes is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a forklift license.
  • Mission Essential: Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations and may be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends.
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) of 10% is required with this position.
  • A pre-employment and annual physical is required.

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Roofer (Motor Vehicle Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision: sweeping and cleaning roofs to prepare them for the application of new roofing materials; properly equipping roofers with safety equipment; installing shingles, asphalt, metal, or other materials to make the roof watertight; aligning roofing materials with edges of the roof; and cutting roofing materials to fit around walls or vents.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The duties require the frequent lifting of heavy weights up to 100 pounds, e.g. rolls of roofing felt, shingles, and asphalt, utilizing a hoist for raising asphalt and roofing materials to roof. Continuous standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in uncomfortable positions. Incumbent may work at heights of up to 70 feet from ladder, bucket truck or scaffolding. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in all kinds of weather. Subject to danger of falling from slippery roofs, ladders and scaffolding. Exposed to possibility of burns from hot asphalt as well as cuts and bruises. Must wear all required protective gear.
