About the Position: Serves as a Supervisory Security Guard supervising the Security Guard force responsible for the protection of government personnel, property, and technologies against sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage, and destruction at Fort Myer, VA. This position is restricted to Veterans and current Department of Army employees unless neither of these categories are available.

Duties

Serves as a Shift Supervisor who exercises direct supervision over the activities of the security guard force. Responsible for performing a diverse range of protective responsibilities over Federal property, employees, and visitors. Plans and coordinates the activities of a security guard force shift, to ensure the maintenance of physical security standards and enforcement of federal state, and local laws. Responsible for protection of government and personal property and control of access of personnel and vehicles to the installation. Responsible for support of the implementation of emergency plans and patrolling of restricted and limited access areas. Performs daily post checks of all post/personnel included in the security guard force areas of responsibilities. Responsible for assisting with suppression of riots; demonstrations and disorders; traffic and crowd control. Supervises necessary training for security guard personnel in the use of weapons, protection against espionage, sabotage, and other organized subversive actions. Makes personnel adjustments to reflect workload revisions.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a Secret security clearance.
  • Must submit to a pre-employment physical and maintain a level of physical fitness.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug test and random testing thereafter.
  • This position has been designated as Mission Essential.
  • The position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position requires rotating shifts and overtime work.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid Driver's License.
  • This position has a requirement to carry a firearm and remain proficient in the use of assigned weapons.
  • This position requires certification in CPR.
  • This position requires the incumbent to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position requires completion of a one-year supervisory probationary period.
  • This position is subject to the requirements of the individual Reliability Program (IRP), in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • This position requires successful completion of security guard training.
  • May be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • This position requires that you wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56 and maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • This position requires the wearing of a chemical protective mask. You must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • This position requires Security Response Capability Training for the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
  • This position requires working both inside and outside, with possible exposure to inclement weather.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
