This position supports the NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center's mission and the Center's Safety and Mission Assurance (SMA) Director by managing the Center's Mishap Program. The incumbent must promote a strong safety culture by briefing and regularly informing SMA and Center leadership about safety findings and issues. The incumbent also supports the Center's Aviation Safety Working Group, Cockpit Safety Working Group, and other safety-related groups within the Center and Agency as required.

Duties

Supports NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center’s mission and the Center’s Safety and Mission Assurance Director by managing the Center’s Mishap Program. Analyzes ground and aviation-related mishaps, verifies root cause and other causal factors for the mishap, and recommends corrective actions for the betterment of the program. Verifies Human Factors related to mishaps, analyzes trends and provides data to management to help prevent future mishaps and incidents. Promotes a strong safety culture by briefing and regularly informing SMA and Center leadership about safety findings and issues. Maintains a safety database to track mishap investigation, corrective action implementation and closure status, as well as a list of trained mishap investigators to respond to incidents and mishaps when needed. Supports the Center’s Aviation safety Working Group, the Cockpit Safety Working Group, and other safety-related groups within the Center and Agency as required. Responsible for ensuring that all guidance documents related to the Armstrong Mishap program are current and reviewed at appropriate intervals and works with NASA headquarters to ensure that the program is audit ready at any time. Oversees safety program related tasks for support contractor. Fosters a culture of engagement, diversity, inclusiveness, excellence and innovation. Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level: Investigating and determining causal factors for aviation and ground related mishaps; Investigating and determining human-factors as they pertain to aviation and ground related mishaps; Developing messaging and/or training plans to increase safety awareness across an organization.
