Click on "Learn more about this agency" button below to view Eligibilities being considered and other IMPORTANT information. ???????The primary purpose of this position, Recreation Specialist, GS-0188-07, is to provide a well-rounded Fitness Program to include all core and enhanced programs as well as special events. The position is responsible to organize, plan, supervise, direct and evaluate these programs.

Duties

Develop and implements an annual fitness plan to include all core and enhanced fitness programs as well as activities implemented in coordination with other base organizations. Manage all fitness programs such as group exercise class, equipment orientations, incentive programs, and fitness assessments, as well as fitness improvement programs for patrons based on their individual interests, ages, and physical abilities. Comply with health and safety directives. Participate in all required in-service training and maintains current capability and certification to perform fitness evaluations. To administer basic first aid, CPR and AED. Keeps abreast of current fitness and sport programs. Work to achieve and support quality improvement in all products and services.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-0188, Recreation Specialist Series. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, or evaluating community, industrial, outdoor, institutional, or other recreational programs; planning, establishing, or evaluating a recreational curriculum for junior college or higher academic levels; instructing in the principles and techniques of recreational program planning and management; serving in a leadership role in the programs and activities of local, regional, and/or national recreational organizations. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. OR EDUCATION: Successful completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education in a major study in a subject area related to the position (general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.; or physical education) OR Superior Academic Achievement. NOTE: You must submit copies of your unofficial transcripts with your application if using education as a substitution of experience. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: An equivalent combination of successfully completed, qualifying education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Specialized experience directly related to the work of the position may be used to meet the requirements of this position. Education in excess of a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (major field of study in general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education) may be used to qualify applicants for the GS-07 level. NOTE: You must submit copies of your unofficial transcripts with your application if using education as a substitution of experience. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of and ability to apply principles, concepts and techniques applicable to fitness program. 2. Knowledge of participant interests and needs and methods and processes involved in a fitness program. 3. Knowledge of methods and procedures for managing/controlling revenues and skill in effectively managing all available financial resources. 4. Skill in planning and carrying out a fitness program and understanding of program requirements to include facilities, equipment, and personnel. 5. Knowledge of security, safety, and health regulations and directives. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as weight plates and chalk bags. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above-average agility and dexterity. The work requires some physical exertion in handling weights over 25 pounds with assistance, tools, materials, and equipment supporting fitness projects, activities and sporting events. There may be some walking, bending, standing. NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, residences or commercial vehicles. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
