Duties

** This announcement is being used to fill various positions at facilities throughout the VISN 8: VA Sunshine Network. You must choose which facilities you want to be considered for. You may select one or more facility; but you must select at least one when you apply. You will be considered for the facilities that you select when you apply. Facilities may have positions are various duty locations covered by its facility. Note that some facilities may not have current vacancies at the time of this announcement. However, applicants may be considered for future and any additional vacancies that become available in the next 90 days.** The Orlando VA Healthcare System Ambulatory Care Services is seeking a full time Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner (NP) to serve on the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) . The incumbent will be expected to provide GAP coverage to other sites of care within 50-miles radius to meet operational needs including Tele-health Modalities. The incumbent will perform outpatient duties and manage scheduled and unscheduled patients of different levels of complexity and ages. As a Licensed Independent Provider, the NP practices autonomously and in coordination with health care professionals and other individuals. The incumbent provides a wide range of health care services, including the diagnosis and management of acute, chronic and complex health problems; health promotion; disease prevention; health education; and counseling to individuals, families, groups and communities. Must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable to the needs of a growing medical center. The incumbent will practice with clinical oversight, consultation and input by a designated collaborating physician and perform within a clinical scope of practice. Serving on an interdisciplinary team providing assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care. Providing primary care health care to patients with chronic and acute conditions, episodic illness in diverse settings, focusing on health promotion, disease prevention, health maintenance, illness and disability minimization. Providing high-quality care, increasing access & improving outcomes for Veterans. Obtaining and evaluating medical histories; performing physical examinations; performing therapeutic and diagnostic procedures; and ordering laboratory studies, radiographs, electrocardiograms, and other special examinations. Provide gender specific care for female veterans. Making arrangements for further care if appropriate (e.g., by entering consults) and serving as a consultant to other providers. Working collaboratively with all levels of staff including trainees (e.g. medical students, NP/RN students, PA students, interns, residents, etc.) and a multidisciplinary staff in a fast-paced educational, and collegial environment. Developing and implementing evidence based nursing protocols and organizing educational activities targeted toward staff training and development. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen. English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)- formerly known as the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) -OR- The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). -OR- The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. -OR- In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Master's or Doctoral Degree from a program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission (ACEN-Formerly NCLAC) or the Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). (Transcripts Required) Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Nurse Practitioner (NP) Certification: Must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a NP in a State and maintain full and current certification as a NP from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. The certification must be in the same specialty as this position. (Copy of NP Certification Required) Preferred Experience, Training, Certification, and/or Qualification: At least three (3) years of successful Primary Care or PACT experience strongly preferred Professional practice characterized by progressively more responsible leadership assignment in clinical, administrative, educational and/or research areas. Has the desire to train and mentor medical students and residents Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level III: None beyond the basic requirements- Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II: Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN or bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience. -OR- a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III: Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN or bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. -OR- a Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019. This examination is administered by VA Occupational Health. This position requires moderate lifting up to 44 lbs., carrying objects up to 15 lbs., frequent reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, hands and legs, use of cranes and motor vehicles, walking & standing up to 8 hours, bending and climbing and able to hear whisper. The incumbent must be physically, emotionally, and mentally stable in order to efficiently perform the essential functions of this position without hazard to themselves or others.
