About the Position: The position falls under the Defense Health Agency National Capital Region Medical Directorate, A.T. Augusta Military Medic Center, with responsibility to provide a combination of technical and administrative tasks related to Advance Life Support treatment and care of patients in an emergency environment outside the military treatment facility emergency room setting (on-scene, 911), and in the interfacility transfer setting. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Respond to emergencies involving injuries, illnesses, and life-threatening situations. Recognize, stabilize, and provide patient care and treatment to a range of patients presenting with complex or multiple emergency systems dysfunctions, injuries and/or disorders. Conduct a preliminary assessment of the number of patient's, the severity of patient's condition, and immediately complete an examination to determine the seriousness of the patient's condition in order to prioritize treatment. Compile information on patients in order to brief emergency room physician on their injuries and relays the conditions of the patient via radio prior to transporting to medical facility. Employ communicable disease control and containment measures and initiate containment protocols pertinent to the prevention of acquired infections. Prepare and administer medications by oral, intranasal, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravascular routes, per protocol or as directed by online medical control. Monitor patient after medication administration for reactions and complications; initiate intravenous (IVs), regulate flow rate, and monitor IV fluids. Administer oxygen and respiratory therapy treatments, administer CPR and other resuscitative measures as needed. Ensure emergency vehicles are operational and ready; Perform routine operator safety checks and emergency vehicle maintenance inspections of the vehicle. Select the most efficient route to and from emergency sites, taking into consideration traffic patterns, health facility locations, and potential contamination issues. Ensure medical equipment is in proper working order, verify that biomedical equipment safety inspections are up to date, and inspect vehicle for fire and safety hazards. Ensure patient care reports and other documentation are prepared in a timely manner, per SOP, with proper computer entry of patient data and equipment settings.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Childcare Background Check Required. Specific initial investigation and periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records to obtain and maintain a suitable determination to occupy a position having regular contact with children.
  • This position requires incumbent to complete a pre-employment physical, physical agility, and psychological examinations and annual thereafter to ensure the required level of physical health and ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization and Tuberculin testing required.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • This position requires a valid stateside driver's license.
  • This position requires incumbent to have and maintain National Registry-Paramedic (NR-Paramedic) certification.
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) Certification within six (6) months from hire date.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes responding to emergencies; patient assessments; providing emergency medical interventions and care; and transporting ill and/or injured patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Certification Requirement: Applicants are required to possess and maintain a National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (NREMT-P) or a National Registry-Paramedic (NR-P) certification. (Note: You must attach a copy of your current/valid certification with your application package).
