This position is located within a National Forest. This is a temporary position that provides leadership over a Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program. The incumbent operates as YCC Program Coordinator, implementing and overseeing the Program, and giving direction to the YCC Program Leaders. Orchestrates work crews, projects, training, budgets and grants and agreements associated with program operations.

Duties

Directs the work of youth crews and provides logistical support to accomplish conservation work projects. Provides and coordinates training to accomplish work projects that include conservation and environmental related activities such as tree planting, thinning, trail maintenance, brushing, campground cleanup, and similar maintenance projects. Provides advice and counsel to others in work related problems and routine personal problems. Resolves complaints and refers disciplinary problems to next level supervisor. Ensures that workers are properly equipped for assigned work duties. Submits requests for supplies and equipment. Coordinates the transportation for individuals to and from their work project location or meeting location. Coordinates with multiple resource specialists to outline project work specific to their program needs and collaboratively works with other non-federal entities for project work to be completed. Assists the Unit Leaders with planning, coordinating, and scheduling daily activities of individuals. Makes plans for programmed work projects. Maintains records and makes required reports. Is responsible for compliance with and enforcement of safe work practices. Actively supports the unit(s) safety and health programs and assures enrollees comply with all safety rules and regulations. Uses process and methods to provide the unit with local inputs for current and out-year allocations, reporting and staffing requirements. Provides input to budget development and the annual reporting of program accomplishments. Uses program direction to ensure staffing levels are met and consults with supervisor when shortfalls are anticipated. Incumbent works with administrative staffs to recommend strategic adjustments. Consults on annual program of work which may include budget allocations. Reviews expenditures and accomplishments, and assembles data for accomplishment reporting to higher level. Reviews and validates data for adequacy, appropriateness, and accuracy. Ensures data used in analyses is timely, accurate, and defensible within established standards.

Qualifications

Examples of specialized experience include: Group leader in community or residential recreation or training programs; Counselor in a youth summer camp; Instructor in a training program for the development of job skills; Work that demonstrated the ability to be responsible for and to lead and train members of a job crew; Aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff in such fields as personnel (private or government), employment guidance in a vocational or academic institution, social service, or manpower development; Aid or assistant to professional or associate staff engaged in work of a social services nature in private, public welfare, government program, or community organizations, or in voluntary activities; Provides and coordinates training for crew leaders and enrollees to accomplish work projects that include conservation and environmental related activities such as tree planting, thinning, trail maintenance, brushing, campground cleanup, and similar maintenance projects; maintains records and makes required reports. Responsible for compliance with and enforcement of safe work practices. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
