The primary purpose of this position, COMPUTER ASSISTANT (OFFICE AUTOMATION) GS-0335-07, is to ensure timely and accurate software/hardware maintenance service is provided to the ALC to support the center's goal and to serve as equipment custodian managing all computer related equipment and supplies.

Duties

Perform computer equipment accountability and management. Represent Base Equipment Control Officer (ECO) to Hill Air Force Base, Utah. Perform technical support specialist duties. Use multiple office automation software with varied functions to produce a wide range of documents, formats, etc. Receive, verify, and secure wide variety of Automated Data Processing Equipment (ADPE) assets.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, CLERICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT POSITIONS. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems. An example of creditable specialized experience includes: Knowledge of computer equipment, internal computer processes, applications and utility programs, a wide range of analytical and diagnostic methods, procedures, and principles to identify system failures, modify programs or procedures, take corrective actions to resume normal operations, and implement procedures to allow for partial use until problems are resolved; knowledge of the functions, capabilities and limitations of a variety of computers, computer network systems, and programs as well as computer-related software and hardware in order to install, test, upgrade, configure, diagnose, and maintain proper functionality. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. Due to the use of 120 day rosters, applicants within 120 days of completion of TIG requirements are encouraged to apply. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the fundamental capabilities and limitations of a variety of computers, computer network systems, and programs; as well as computer-related software and hardware in order to test, install, upgrade, configure, diagnose, and maintain proper functionality. Knowledge of IT principles, methods and practices in IT management and warehousing policy and procedures. Ability to provide training and guidance to users in the proper application of software, security requirements, hardware capabilities, and understanding computer maintenance. Knowledge of quality assurance principles. Ability to apply basic analytical methods and techniques to resolve routing problems and/or deviate from normal equipment management procedures or program requirements; and to conduct extensive searches for information and to reconstruct records for complex transactions. Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, graphs, and E-mail/messaging. Ability to interpret contract delivery orders in order to monitor performance and ensure accurate delivery receipt. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The position may require extended periods of standing, walking, stretching, bending, stooping, or carrying a variety of computer and communications equipment. Moderate lifting, 15-24 pounds; heavier loads may be lifted with the help of a co-worker or lifting device. Incumbent is required to comply with all safety practices, procedures and regulations. May involve hazards in handling an unpacking of material; possibility of cuts and abrasions in unpacking materials. Must have a valid government vehicle operator's license for operating up to a ¾ ton truck and occasional operation of a 4000-pound forklift. This level of physical demands occurs when employees are regularly assigned to activities such as tracing misplaces items or conducting physical inventories in warehouse, depots, and other storage areas, or when they are regularly involved in placing and retrieving equipment on warehouse racks or involved in receiving equipment on warehouse racks or involved with receiving and distributing equipment. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The majority of work is performed in a typical office setting that is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, but is not limited to this work environment. Some work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, such as working around moving warehouse equipment, cars, or machines and working outdoors during hot or inclement weather when loading and unloading equipment from or onto vehicles. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, safety shoes, goggles, back belts and gloves.
