About the Position: This position is located at the Logistics Readiness Center at Fort Leonard Wood. Fort Leonard Wood is located in the beautiful South-Central Missouri Ozarks. The Fort covers more than 61,000 acres and is located in Pulaski County, Missouri. Bordering the installation to the North are the towns of Waynesville/St. Robert and Interstate 44. St. Louis is a 2 hour drive to the East along I-44 and Springfield is a little more than an hour's drive to the West of Fort Leonard Wood.

Duties

Conduct a complete initial inspection to determine if defects indicated on the job order are actual malfunctions. Conduct acceptance inspection to determine if all operator level maintenance has been completed by units and if maintenance repair is warranted. Disassemble weapons, night vision devices, aiming lasers, optical devices, assemblies, subassemblies and other components. Inspect and repair a variety of small arms for safety and serviceability. Inspect, disassemble, repair crew served weapons and associated mechanisms such as loading, firing and recoil mechanisms, elevating and traversing mechanisms, operates component parts to determine serviceability and to localize malfunctions.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is subject to a medical clearance examination prior to employment. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required and must be maintained for the position.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid government motor vehicle operator's license authorizing the operation of vehicles and equipment of the type and capacities.
  • Incumbent may be required to work overtime to include weekends and federal holidays, out of cycle, or unscheduled training or on an emergency basis.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • This is a drug testing position covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control. Program. The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R.
  • Must pass urinalysis testing as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Appointment may be subject to suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Issued credit card for TDY/travel expenses.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Small Arms Repairer Inspector without more than normal supervision. I can 1) complete inspections to determine defects or malfunctions of small arms subject to repair such as, automatic pistols, shotguns, carbines, automatic rifles, submachine and machineguns, cannons, grenade launchers, night vision devices, etc; and 2) perform maintenance and repair of small arms. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to InspectAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading)Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)TroubleshootingUse of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Incumbent frequently lifts items weighing up to 20 pounds. Objects up to 50 pounds are occasionally lifted. Work requires walking, bending, and long periods of standing. Working Conditions: Work is performed in shop, or at unit arms rooms, with occasional trips to firing ranges. Floors are concrete or steel. Exposed to excessive noise when test firing weapons; injury due to handling tools and weapons; injury due to shocks; contact with dirt, grease, dust, and fumes; and more serious injury when unloading jammed or misfired weapons, ricochet bullets or acids. Required to wear PPE such as but not limited to safety shoes, eye protection, hearing protection and gloves.
