The Supply Technician (Medical) serves in the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics within the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System and provides wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with sterile/non-sterile medical supplies and materials. Cut-off for applications will occur every 2 weeks beginning November 3, 2023 and qualified applicants referred until positions are filled.

Open Date: October 23, 2023 Close Date: September 29, 2024 First Cut-Off Date: November 3, 2023 NOTE: This is an Open Continuous Announcement. Qualified candidates will be referred until all vacancies are filled. Eligible applications received after November 3, 2023 will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. In addition, due to the potential of a high volume of applicants, not all applicants may receive consideration. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/29/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-04) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: providing supplies and material to clinical and administrative areas of a complex health care facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing medical and surgical supplies, instruments and other material; pulling stock, replenishing stock and maintaining records on stock levels; monitoring expiration dates; cleaning assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; utilizing an automated system to maintain inventory; and answers customer questions regarding supplies and materials. OR, Education (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED): Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR, Combination (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED): Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond a high school education as described above that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. For the GS-05, only education in excess of 60 semester hours (2 years) is creditable. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
